Safety Director:

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement safety management systems, which include written standards, training requirements, monitoring/auditing elements and corrective action steps. Systems shall exceed compliance and create value added enhancement to plant operations whenever feasible

• Represent the Company in loss prevention and claims management activities with workers compensation boards and general liability insurance carriers

• Manage Industrial Hygiene related programs and upgrade with continuous improvement as the objective. Programs include but are not limited to Hearing Conservation, Radiation Safety, Respiratory Protection, Heat Stress, and Drug Free Workplace, among others

• Establish and maintain effective standardized tools to monitor the success of safety management systems and identify opportunities for improvement

• Provide personal leadership and professional guidance to operations in performance of safety management requirements including incident investigation, safety training and communications, inspection and auditing, hazard assessment, and implementation of site business safety plans

• Manage compliance with clients third party organizations.

• Provide direction and support to the facility joint union and management safety committee. Provide oversight and direction to union safety representatives on safety policies and technical safety issues

• Coordinate and participate in safety committee meetings

• Plan and coordinate safety training

• Supervise, coordinate and conduct plant compliance audits and physical inspections

• Maintain records and documentation required by national or provincial regulations

• Evaluate, specify and audit the proper application of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

• Maintain and update as needed Western's Safety Manual

• Advanced knowledge of local, state and federal regulations, including OSHA, and MSHA; advanced knowledge of consensus standards, including NIOSH, ANSI, ASTM and NFPA standards.

• Attend professional training classes and periodic business association meetings

• Conduct and supervise incident investigations

• Track completion of corrective actions identified through audits or investigations

• Directly interact with the Plant Operations Managers and Senior Management staff members in the determination of loss prevention objectives and the development of objective attainment plans

• This list does not encompass all duties required by the safety director.

 

Requirements:

• B.S. in Safety, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Human Resource Management, Safety or related field.

• 5 - 10 years of experience in managing in industrial setting.

• Experiences in Workers Compensation Claims Management a plus

• Computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel.

• Strong written and oral communication skills

• Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to affect positive behavior in others

• Experience in industrial consrtruction

• OSHA and MSHA Instructor capability is a plus
